Oil of oregano

I have been meaning to blog about this gem for far too long.  I hope it finds you well before the cold or flu.
Oil of oregano was first discovered over 3 thousand years ago in Greece as a topical antibacterial.  It contains carvacrol and thymol which are very powerful antibacterial, antifungal and even antiviral. It is also high in phenols which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.  It is most beneficial to get at least 80% carvacrol and only wild Mediterranean oregano(origanum vulgare)is effective.
At the first sign of a cold(or even before if a family member is sick)gargle, swish and spit with a enough water to gargle with(about half ounce)and a few drops of oil of oregano four times a day. Depending on how strong your oil is you may need to dilute it more or make it stronger. You can also take the oil sublingual less diluted but be aware it does cause flushing. I personally find it more effective to gargle since most problems start on the mouth(sore throat, etc). If you are fighting something intestinal, you can also swallow the diluted liquid but please be advised it's a very important to follow up with pre and probiotics. Oil of oregano is very strong so it will not only kill bad bacteria but it will also kill the good stuff.
Note: it could cause allergic reactions to those allergic to Lamiaceae family plants, including basil, hyssop, lavender, marjoram, mint, and sage.
